Oval-leaved Blueberry – Ericales Ericaceae Vaccinium ovalifolium
Identification & Description:
A erect or spreading shrub to 2m tall, old branches are gray, young branches usually reddish and are very obvious in the fall after the leaves have fallen. Blunt-rounded leaves are oval green above and paler beneath and usually have no teeth. Pinkish urn shaped flowers appear before or sometimes with the leaves. Blue-black berries have a bluish bloom and are very tasty.
Oval leaved blueberries are among the first berries to ripen, sometimes as early as the first part of July but can be found later in the season at higher elevations
